Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo on Tuesday, called on the Nigerian government to liaise with Cameroon in seeking solutions to the yearly menace caused by flooding, as it affects some states in the middle belt part of Nigeria.
He revealed this during debates at the plenary of the Nigerian Senate.
Senator Onawo is a former Member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives.
The lawmaker representing Nasarawa South said the frequent happening of flood in the country meant it requires urgent attention.
“The problem of flooding has been discussed frequently but, failed to yield the desired results yearly”.
“The Nigerian government should liaise with Cameroon that releases its water from dams, making states like Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Kogi to suffer the consequences, Senator Onawo said.
It has been warned that 32 out of 36 states of Nigeria are likely to witness severe flooding this year than the experience had in 2022. It is on this prompt that measures are made to prevent such occurrence.
