Health Ministry Urges Agency Heads On Effective Budgeting

Nigeria’s Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has called on heads of agencies to prioritize government objectives in their budget allocations for 2025.

This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary whose comments were made during a two-day workshop centred on reviewing the 2024 budget performance and preparing for the upcoming fiscal year. The workshop was held in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.

Dajo Kachallom also called for a careful review of proposed projects, “it’s imperative that agencies justify their budget requests. We need to scrutinize every aspect to ensure that our financial resources are optimally utilized”, she said.

She described the workshop as “an essential platform for us to realign our strategies with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda”.

While emphasizing on effective budgeting which she said is crucial for quality healthcare service delivery across the country, Kachallom highlighted on the importance of effective utilisation of resources.

“We must ensure that every naira spent is directed towards projects and programs that meet our government’s priorities. This is a critical time, and we must be diligent in managing our budget to provide value for money”, she stated.

She reiterated her commitment to the health sector’s progress, stating that “together, we can navigate these challenges and by focusing on our priorities and managing our resources wisely, we will make strides towards a healthier nation”.
