Abuja, July 25 (Mediaage NG News) – Deputy Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu yesterday at the opening ceremony of the 17th edition of the Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, said there are a number of factors that have led to poor housing conditions in the country.
He listed these factors to include rapid urbanization, population growth, and a lack of affordable housing finance.

The lawmaker also revealed that the House is keen to collaborate with professionals in the built industry to fight the housing industry currently troubling mostly the poor and low income earners.
He said the housing deficit in Nigeria is a major challenge that needs to be addressed, “the 10th House of Representatives, led by the Speaker, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, is committed to working with stakeholders to find solutions”, he said.
He also revealed that the House of Representatives is willing to partner with relevant bodies to enable Nigerians benefit from an improved housing sector. “We are willing when approached by stakeholder inputs to expend our legislative powers to fix the challenges in Nigeria’s housing sector.

He said ideas generated by housing professionals will be valuable in helping the country’s President, Ahmed Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to develop a comprehensive plan to address the housing deficit in Nigeria.
