ABUJA, Nigeria – Mediaage NG News – The Nigerian Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on Monday, confirmed that the online system for passport application will go live on January 8, 2024, marking the end of streamlined passport application in the country.
The Minister had last December, described the new drive as 99% done, and added that the system aimed to eliminate the need for manual document submission and physical visits to immigration offices.
“Nigerians will be able to initiate and complete their entire passport application journey online, the Minister said, while inspecting facilities with Comptroller General, Wura-Ola Adepoju.
“We are good to go live. The training process has commenced, and come January 8, the solution will be up and running. Nigerians can expect a smooth experience.
“We have minimized human contact in the passport issuance process. This not only simplifies the experience for citizens, but enhances security by enabling swift detection of fraudulent applications and reducing potential bottlenecks”, Mr. Ojo added.
Nigerians can now be confident of a faster, more transparent and secure path to getting their travel documents, opposed to the long queues and cumbersome paperwork.
