Nigeria’s health ministry has quelled fears of COVID Variant XEC detected in the country, urging the public to calm and follow hygienic precautions, including hand washing.
This is in response to a letter making the rounds, claiming the resurgence of COVID in Nigeria.
According to a statement released in Abuja, on Saturday, by the Deputy Director, Information & Public Relations, Alaba Balogun, the Ministry made clear its objective in strengthening the country’s health system for efficient delivery, particularly in response to emerging infectious diseases.
The COVID variant XEC.was recently reported in Australia and is said to have spread across 29 countries. Though, the Ministry reassured that no case of it has been reported in the country.
The statement said to improve the nation’s health system, the government has “proactively upgraded federal tertiary hospitals with isolation centers for efficient containment of potential outbreaks, and intensive care units, equipped with ventilators for critical care.It also said surveillance efforts are intensified across all entry points in the country to monitor and respond promptly to emerging health threats.
‘The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted healthcare service delivery and protecting the health of all Nigerians’, the statement added.
