In Ekiti State, six students and three teachers, including a bus driver were kidnapped by unknown persons on Monday night. They were returning from a journey and were attacked in Emure, a town in the state
The government of Ekiti state in a statement said it is determined to rescue the kidnapped persons. The governor, Abiodun Oyebanji asked residents to be calm and share information that could lead to their release.
It is yet unknown who is responsible or whether a ransom has been demanded
In recent years, kdnapping for ransom is a trend that is getting worse in the country. Armed men target road travellers, students as well as residents in rural and urban areas across the country.
Early this year, six sisters were kidnapped, including their father who was later released to go look for a ransom to be paid. They were later freed and an uncle to the girls said a ramsom was paid. However, one of the sisters was killed while in captivity, as a warning for the ransom to be paid.
