Mental health is the responsibility of all, an unstable mental state could make one highly irrational. When emotions are right, an individual thinks and behaves well, but, when bad or messed up, it produces highly unreasonable behaviours.
These were the groundwork that formed the basis of Secure D-Future International Initiative (SDF) when it inaugurated the SDF Mental Health School Club at the Army Day Secondary School, Mambilla Barracks in Abuja.
The Club is a platform that aims to keep teenagers aware of mental health and emotions, also an avenue for them to get help when needed.
“Our long term goal is to have them as advocates and first aiders because, life has a way of throwing punches at people and when these things are not attacked at the earliest, it has a way of having ripple effects in the latter life of that individual, Chinemerem Iwuanyanwu, Director, Human Resource and Admin, Secure D-Future International Initiative said on Tuesday.
“If those things linger for too long, it begins to crystallize and form a key part of that human. That’s the reason we decide to attack it at this age. Get them to understand what mental health is about, understand what their emotions are about, and how to manage their emotions so they can think, feel and behave well.
“A bad mental state can make one highly irrational. Mental health club is out to help us understand and improve our mindset and how we relate with the society”, Mrs. Iwuanyanwu added.
She further said what the SDF aims to achieve is to create a safer, sane society filled with people full of purpose.
