London, August 01 ( Mediaage NG News) – Afrobeats musician, Wizkid has become the first African artist to be recognised by BRIT Billion Award which acknowledges artists who have achieved over one billion digital streams in the UK.
After performing last Saturday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, BRIT Awards posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, revealing that they presented the gong to the Nigerian musician.
Known for his famous collaborations with artists like Drake and Beyonce, Wizkid made his debut in 2011 and has become known for a plethora of hits like Essence, Ojuelegba and Joro.
His fourth album, Made in Lagos, was also awarded gold certification in the US in 2022 after selling more than 500,000 copies – yet another first for an African artist.
