Five school pupils and four teachers kidnapped a week ago were last weekend released, the Ekiti State authorities said. However, the driver abducted alongside the students was killed in captivity.
The kidnappers had demanded more than a hundred million naira but, it is unclear if a ransom was paid to secure the student’s freedom.
The schoolchildren were looking tired in a video shared online.
It is expected that they will be taken for medical treatment and assessment.
Kidnapping is a common problem in Nigeria today and the authorities are battling to bring it to a halt.
